FIRST TERM, 2018/2019 ACADEMIC YEAR NEWSLETTER
Dear Esteemed Parents/Guardians,
Complements of the Yuletide season!
We are grateful to God for bringing us to the end of first term of 2018/2019 school year, and for enabling us to effectively execute all our goals this term. We also wish to appreciate all our dear Parents for your support and partnership. With your continued collaboration, we shall endeavor to constantly exceed your expectations.
END OF TERM/RESUMPTION
The first term which commenced on September, 10th 2018 ends today. The second term begins on Monday, 14th January, 2019. All students are expected to resume on this day. We strongly encourage our Parents to help inculcate in our Children the culture of compliance with rules.
FIRST TERM EXAMINATIONS/ PROGRESS REPORT
The first term examinations for this session were conducted successfully from Friday 23rd November through Wednesday 5th December, 2018. As usual, the Students have been given copies of their report sheets and we expect Parents to go through them. If you desire to discuss your Child’s progress with us, do feel free to contact the Director of Studies (see contacts listed below). Alternatively, you can come to the school in person, upon resumption. We further urge that Parents continue to collaborate with the school by encouraging their Children to pay utmost attention to their studies and always reach for greater heights.
HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENTS
As our manner is, the Students have been given assignments/projects to be completed during the holiday and submitted on resumption for next term. It is very important that all Students complete the assignments and projects they have been given. Parents/guardians are implored to monitor their Children/Wards and ensure that they do these assignments/projects appropriately. The assignments/projects serve to intimate the students with some of the topics they will encounter in various subjects next term. In addition, the assignments constitute part of the continuous assessment score for second term, 2018/2019 academic session.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Our co-curricular activities are still going on smoothly. Students’ performances are constantly improving in activities such as martial art (kungfu, taekwondo, and karate), sports, music, instrumentation, entrepreneurship, press and debate. We find that Students’ participation in one co-curricular activity or the other helps to boost their self-confidence, as well as provide them a platform to express their innate skills and talents.
APPROVAL FOR EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS: WEST AFRICAN SENIOR SECONDARY CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (WASSCE), NATIONAL EXAMINATION COUNCIL (NECO) AND JUNIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (JSCE)
We are pleased to inform you that Avital College has attained approval from the Ministry of Education to conduct external examinations right in our school premises. Inspectors from the Ministry visited our school last term for inspection of facilities and staff assessment. This term, officials from the National Examination Council (NECO) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) came around for the same purpose. At the end of the exercise, our School was commended for its adequate learning facilities and quality teaching staff. The officials stressed that they are pleased to partner with us in the business of providing qualitative education in the country.
STAFF TRAINING
Avital schools does not make light of staff training and empowerment, as constant training is essential, especially in a field as dynamic as education. Hence, the Management organized a two-day retreat/training for all administrative and teaching staff. The training which ran from Friday 12th through Saturday 13th October, 2018 featured sessions on Curriculum Presentation, Skills Development, Avital Schools Short, Medium and Long Term Goals, the Seven (7) Domains of Learning amongst others.
Teachers made presentations on the 2022 Growing Skills they should focus on inculcating in themselves and in all Avital Students. It was emphasized that teachers should pay less attention to manual dexterity and obsolete teaching methodologies.
At the end of the training, all members of staff left the retreat venue with a robust knowledge of curriculum content for teaching the various classes from Primary school to the College.
PARENTS-TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (PTA)
The PTA is undoubtedly an interactive platform which avails Parents the opportunity to meet minds with the school Management with a view to charting courses of action as regards the academic and social development of our Children. We heartily applaud the efforts of those Parents who have made it a point of duty to always be in attendance during our PTA meetings, and urge others to come on board. Your priceless contributions and constructive criticisms help us to serve you better.
ADMISSION
Admission into our mid-stream classes ( J S S 1-2 and S S S 1-2 ) is still in progress. Interested persons should pick up a registration form from the school. Candidates are usually required to write an entrance examination to determine their suitability for admission.
PROMPT PAYMENT OF SCHOOL FEES
Our gratitude goes to Parents who are regular and prompt in school fees payment. Your co-operation enables us to provide our Children with qualitative education in a conducive environment. We shall continue to emphasize that prompt payment of fees is pivotal to the smooth running of our Schools.
NB: Please be informed that Avital Schools has resolved not to accept cash payment of school fees, no matter how small, with effect from next term. For the safety of our Students and Staff, we humbly appeal that you use other means such as online payment gateway (School Management Software), bank transfers, ATM transfer, POS, cheques, direct online banking, etc. The major reason for this decision is that we are experiencing an increase in students’ population resulting in more cash flow.
We wish to remind our Parents (returning and new) that school fees are expected to be paid on or before resumption date (14th January, 2019).The school account details are stated below. Please do forward evidence of payment to the school for the issuance of receipts.

SCHOOL SHUTTLE SYSTEM
Our school shuttle systems are still up and running. We must appreciate parents who always ensure that their children are ready for pick up at the appropriate time as we urge those who sometimes delay the bus drivers to be more time conscious. All Parents should please note that our drivers have only five minutes to wait for any student after which they leave. The onus will then be on the child’s parents to convey him/her to school. We encourage parents who are yet to subscribe to the shuttle system to do so.
OPEN DAY
The importance of Parents’ attendance to Open Day cannot be over emphasized as the day provides the much needed platform for parents to discuss their Children’s overall progress with the school. The task of educating and grooming a Child requires the input of both the family and the school. The synergy between the School and the home front will ensure that no stone is left unturned and that the students are constantly kept on their toes. We therefore, appeal that all Parents should make it a point of duty to show up on our Open Days.
SCHOOL EXCURSION/OUTINGS
We believe that learning should not be restricted to the four walls of a school structure. In view of this, Avital College Students embarked on a most thrilling excursion to the Nigerian Railway Corporation on Thursday, 6th December, 2018. The students had a train ride from Ebute Meta Headquarters to Agbado Station, during which they were shown various land marks within Lagos State and its environs. They were equally given a brief lecture on rail transportation as well as the history of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
Our Students also visited the less privileged children at Heart of Gold Auspices, Masha, with gift items that they had earlier been encouraged to bring for the children at the facility. It is our belief that learning to share what one has is a crucial part of being socially responsible. Kudos to all our dear Parents who brought in gift items for this purpose. May the blessings of giving be yours in abundance.
In the same vein, some of our Students honoured an invitation to be part of the annual Lagos Television Christmas Fair Opening Ceremony which was declared open by the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Bolanle Ambode. Participating Students found the outing both educative and fun-filled.
SCHOOL HALL FOR RENT
We wish to remind all Parents that Avital College hall is available to the public for rent for birthdays, weddings, naming ceremonies, etc. The 400-seater hall costs one hundred thousand naira (N100, 000.00.) This amount covers for 8 hours’ power supply, 60 chairs and 10 tables. Aside the rent, a refundable caution deposit of twenty thousand naira (N20, 000.00) is payable. Avital Schools Children have the opportunity of using the hall free of charge for their birthdays on payment of only ten thousand naira (N10, 00.00) for fueling of generator for eight hours’ power supply. However, Avital Schools Children’s siblings get the hall at a discounted rate of forty thousand naira (N40, 000.00) only.
STUDENTS’ SECURITY
The security of our Children is of major concern to us. Considering the security lapses in our society presently, we appeal to Parents/Guardians to ensure compliance with the measures put in place for our Children’s safety. Parents whose Children do not use the school shuttle are expected to drop their Children in the school premises and not on the road in the mornings. The school does not allow unidentified house helps or relatives to pick Children after school hours. Besides, food and snacks brought for Children by unknown house helps or unidentified relatives are not acceptable.
HEALTH MATTERS
We wish to appeal to Parents whose Children might have some communicable diseases to inform the school of such situations early enough to enable us employ relevant measures to curb the spread of such ailments to other students. We will appreciate it if Parents could keep their Children at home during such periods until they have been certified medically fit and free by a medical expert to go out.
GENERAL
We encourage Parents/Guardians to monitor their children closely. Please censor what they read or view on various electronic devices at their disposal, and do encourage them to continue with daily prayers and meditations.
We would like to use this medium to express our gratitude to all Parents for the confidence reposed on us. You have not only made us your choice school but you have also recommended us to other parents. For this, we say thank you. The responsibility of educating and grooming our Children into socially responsible scholars has been made a lot easier by your unflinching partnership with us. Words are not adequate to express our gratitude to Parents/Guardians whose commitment to regular and prompt payment of their Children’s/Wards’ school fees has not wavered over the years. You are indeed a huge part of our success story as a school.
On behalf of the Management and the entire staff of Avital Schools, we wish you a merry Christmas, a joyous ending of 2018 and a rewarding and fulfilling New Year 2019.
Thank you and God bless you all.
Best regards,
Management
